Early life and education

Sangma is from Khamari village, Hollaidanga post, Tikrikilla PS, West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya. He is the son of late Bijen M. Marak. He studied Class 12 and passed the higher secondary examinations conducted by the

in 1988. He is a retired government employee and his wife is a teacher.

Sangma won from Tikrikilla Assembly constituency representing the National People's Party (India) in the 2023 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election. He polled 13,218 votes and defeated his nearest rival, former chief minister and six time MLA,
