Gregory was a sergeant instructor with the Depot and Training Establishment of the Royal Army Medical Corps at Aldershot. He played rugby in the position of a wing three-quarter and appeared for the Army and Combined Services. Gregory finished third behind McDonald Bailey in the 100 yards event at the 1947 AAA Championships. Gregory represented the Great Britain team at the 1948 Olympic Games in London in the 4 x 100 metre relay, where he won the silver medal with his teammates Jack Archer,
