Early career

His first album, ''Lowdown Back Porch Blues'', was recorded in New York City with Tommy Tucker and released in 1963. Personal life

Minter married a woman named Ealase in 1963. Together they raised three children. Ealase died of cancer in 1973. His second marriage was to folk singer and civil rights activist
