Death

On December 30, 2009, Brown was killed in a
suicide bombing A suicide attack (also known by a wide variety of other names, see below) is a deliberate attack in which the perpetrators knowingly sacrifice their own lives as part of the attack. These attacks are a form of murder–suicide that is ofte ...
at a CIA base in Khost, Afghanistan. The attack, carried out by a bomber who had been invited onto the base without being searched, resulted in the deaths of seven CIA officers and the wounding of six others. The incident was one of the deadliest attacks on CIA personnel in the agency's history. In response, President Barack Obama praised the fallen officers for their service, describing them as part of a "long line of patriots" who had made significant sacrifices to protect the United States. Brown Jr. was buried with full military honors following a funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in

Personal life

Brown was married to Janet Brown, whom he met while attending George Washington University. The couple had three children. At the time of his death, he was an active parishioner of St. Mary of Sorrows, where he taught elementary religious education classes. He was a member of the
