On 4 October 1996, he was re-elected as the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic. Later, he did not take part in the parliament. He is the Honorary President of DP. He speaks English and a little Greek. He is married and has two children. He is the son of the aunt of the 3rd President of TRNC Derviş Eroğlu .
