Background

East Java is a province at the eastern tip of Java Island with its capital in Surabaya. East Java Province has an area of 47,803.49 kilometers and is inhabited by 40.6 million people in 2020. East Java Province is one of the first provinces established after the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence. Since 1945, East Java has been led by 14 governors and two acting governors.
