''. That same year, Berninger moved with his wife and teenage daughter from Los Angeles to Connecticut, where he found inspiration writing lyrics and creating art pieces in his barn. The album was recorded in a basement studio in Silver Lake, California, with engineer and producer Sean O'Brien, who also co-wrote many of its songs.
