Established in 1906 as ''Fußballklub 06 Bochum'' the club was later renamed ''Sportverein Germania 06 Bochum''.
''Germania'' absorbed the members of ''Vorwärts Bochum'' in 1924 to play as ''SV Germania Vorwärts Bochum''.
