Elhedery was born in Beirut, Lebanon. His father was a banker, and his mother a teacher. He earned a degree in engineering at the

Elhedery worked for

from 2001 to 2005, before joining HSBC. He moved to Dubai, where he became Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey CEO for the bank. In 2022, Elhedery took a six-month sabbatical to learn Mandarin, and rejoined HSBC as its chief financial officer. As of February 2025, Elhedery earns a total of $6.8 million in annual compensation from HSBC.
