Early life

Gary Hutzel was born in

. He studied mechanical engineering at the

for a period, but decided that he wanted to pursue a career in films and moved to California, where he studied photography at the

Personal life and death

While working on the special effects for the Freeform television series '' Beyond'' on March 1, 2016, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he had a

and died. Freeform released a statement saying "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague, Gary Hutzel. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and our 'Beyond' family". He was survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.
