Escaudœuvres is famous for being the location of the sugar factory of the
Sucrerie centrale de Cambrai
The Sucrerie centrale de Cambrai was a company which had a central beet sugar factory in Escaudœuvres, Nord department, France. This Sucrerie centrale d'Escaudœuvres was fed by about a dozen râperies. In 2003 the company was merged into its ...
. At the time of its construction, this was one of the biggest sugar factories of the world. It later became the Sucrerie Tereos d'Escaudœuvres, but ceased to operate in 2023. The site is now only a logistics facility.
