The following preseason, while only 26 years old, his career was derailed by an eye injury. Though he recovered later that season, he lost playing time to

Tim Pernetti in late 2012, leading to the eventual firing of Rice and the resignation of Pernetti in April 2013. In 2016, Rutgers settled Murdock's wrongful termination lawsuit for $500,000.
In December 2018, Murdock and a fellow airplane passenger filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against
