He was an IAS officer and served as an officer in many departments including Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak. The Government of India awarded Hari Dev Shourie the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan, the third and the second highest civilian awards. Hari Dev Shourie was also named on People of the Year by the Limca Book of Records. Shourie did his schooling at Modern School, Barakhamba, and received a bachelor's in Economics(H) from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He then obtained his doctorate in economics from
