As player, de la Torre spent many seasons with Chivas Guadalajara, a brief stint with Spanish side Xerez and earned several caps with the Mexico national team in the mid to late 1980s. In December 2010 he was appointed one of the assistant managers to his cousin José Manuel de la Torre for the Mexico national team.
