Born on June 3, 1973, in

in his mid-teens. He began rapping in 1991, but spent a year in prison for drug possession. After being released in late 1992, he resumed his rap career a year later. He joined the Screwed Up Click, headed by

, who helped to popularize the "chopped and screwed" style of rap music. His debut album, '' Ocean of Funk,'' was released on February 1, 1994 under independent label Perrion Entertainment. It contained the popular single "Swangin' & Bangin'", which would later be remixed for his follow-up, '' Sailin' Da South'', released in September 1995 under

Health problems

On July 1, 2022, E.S.G. was diagnosed with colon cancer and in the following year, cells from the cancer spread toward his leg, which ultimately led to him having it amputated. In July 2023, he was involved in a serious car accident.
