Career

In 2009, Crews joined the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an instructor. Early in her career she used data from Healthy Aging in Neighborhoods of Diversity across the Lifespan Study to investigate why African Americans with incomes below the poverty line have a significantly higher risk of chronic kidney disease than their white counterparts. She then collaborated with L. Ebony Boulware to develop interventions and strategies to improve dietary choices in the African-American population to help prevent chronic kidney disease. Their work was recognized with an inaugural President's Research Recognition Award in 2012. As an

The center's aim is to address cardiometabolic health disparities among socially disadvantaged populations across Maryland by testing the effectiveness of several evidence-based strategies.
