Lane would also referee the 2021 All Ireland semi-final between Mayo and Dublin. In the aftermath he would receive a massive amount of critism for his performance. Most notably he would completely neglect player safety. After allowing the game to continue despite player Eoghan Mcgloughlin being knocked out and, having his jaw broke following a shoulder to the face. This would lead to outcry from Mayo supporters. He would also receive massive backlash from Dublin due to many more dodgy calls.
