Prabhakar is from Denduluru in the erstwhile West Godavari district which is currently in Eluru district. His father Kesavarao is a farmer. He completed his intermediate, the pre university course, from Sir Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy College, Eluru, in 1986.
