Biography
De Simone studied comparative linguistics and archaeology at the
University of Rome, where he was awarded a prize in 1955 with a thesis on the subject: "Le iscrizioni messapiche: cronologia e fonetismo". He obtained a scholarship to the

In November 1964, he was admitted as a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tübingen, through his work on Greek contributions in the Etruscan language.

De Simone returned to Tübingen in 1980 and finished his career there in 1998. A

De Simone died in Rome on 14 September 2023, at the age of 90.
