. It has been called "Perhaps the most reliable account of the life of Bully Hayes." Clune had written about Hayes in an episode of his 1938 radio series ''Scallywags of the Pacific''. He also wrote about him in his 1938 book ''Free and Easy Land''. Clune worked on the book in 1969. "The trouble is to separate fact and fiction," he said.
