in 1952 who classified it as ''Cortinarius aureofulvus'' and then reclassified it as ''Phlegmacium aureofulvum'' in 1960. In 2022 the species was transferred from ''Cortinarius'' and reclassified as ''Calonarius aureofulvus'' based on genomic data.
