Buildings

The library has been housed in three buildings. Originally, it was housed in the Belmont Town Hall, designed by architects
Hartwell and Richardson Hartwell and Richardson was a Boston, Massachusetts architectural firm established in 1881, by Henry Walker Hartwell (1833–1919) and William Cummings Richardson (1854–1935). The firm contributed significantly to the current building stock and ...
and completed in 1881. In 1902, a new facility was donated by Henry Oliver Underwood and opened in 1902. The building is on Pleasant Street and now serves as the School Administration Building. In 1965, the Belmont Memorial Library on Concord Avenue was opened. In 2024, the Belmont Memorial Library was torn down, with a planned opening of a new building in Fall 2025.
