Bajaj auto was established on 29 November 1945 as M/s Bajaj Trading Corporation Private Limited. It initially imported and sold two- and three-wheelers in India. In 1959, it obtained a license from the

In Indonesia, Bajaj three-wheelers are described as "iconic" and "ubiquitous" to the point that the word ''bajaj'' (pronounced ''bajay'') is used to refer to auto rickshaws of any kind.
