Bai Mengyan

Bai Mengyan (; born 23 September 1994), known professionally by her stage name Bai Lu (), is a Chinese actress, model and singer. She is best known for her roles in ''Untouchable Lovers'' (2018), '' The Legends'' (2019), '' Arsenal Military Academy'' (2019), '' Love Is Sweet'' (2020), '' One and Only'' (2021), '' Forever and Ever'' (2021), '' Story of Kunning Palace'' (2023) and '' Till the End of the Moon'' (2023).

Early life

Bai Lu was born Bai Mengyan on 23 September 1994, in Changzhou, Jiangsu.

In 2010, she did her junior high school and the Foreign Language degree program at Changzhou Higher Vocational Technical Institute of Tourism and Commerce. In 2015, after graduating in her program, she began working as a model in graphic advertisement for Taobao.

Career

2012–2018: Career beginnings

In 2012, Bai Lu participated in SM Entertainment's overseas audition, but was not successful. In 2015, she shot a short film for a literary magazine, and later appeared on its cover. She then began to pursue her career as an actress and acted in the short film ''Meeting You Is Such a Good Thing'' (遇见你这么美好的事情), produced by Cat's Tree Studio. In 2016, Bai Lu signed a contract with Yu Zheng's entertainment company, Huanyu Film. She featured in Rover Lu's MV, "Liu Yan: Message". She acted in the television series ''Zhaoge'', playing a noble lady.

In 2017, Bai starred as lead in the historical comedy series ''King Is Not Easy.'' She starred as lead in the fantasy drama ''The Monkey King: Land of Beauty''.

In 2018, Bai starred in the historical romance drama ''Untouchable Lovers'', playing dual roles, as the general Hou Xuan and as a prince's concubine, "Le Yun". For her performance in the series, she won "Best Newcomer Award" at the iQiyi All-Star Carnival.

2019–present: Rising popularity and breakthrough

In 2019, Bai starred as "Lu Zhaoyao", a fearless demon leader, alongside Xu Kai, in the xianxia drama '' The Legends.'' The series topped television broadcasting ratings. Its unique characters, romantic comedy elements, and strong female characters were much appreciated by the viewers. She starred as "Xie Xiang", a girl pretending to be her brother, in the youth military-based series '' Arsenal Military Academy''. The series got positive responses and she received Best Actress Awards for her portrayal. Later, she starred in the romance comedy series ''Lucky's First Love''.

In 2020, Bai starred as "Jiang Jun" in the workplace romance series '' Love Is Sweet,'' alongside Luo Yunxi, playing an idealistic but intelligent financial analyst. This series got decent recognition in the international market. She also starred as "Long Aoyi", in the historical romance series ''Jiu Liu Overlord,'' alongside Lai Yi.

In 2021, Bai starred as "Cui Shiyi" in the Chinese period romantic series '' One and Only,'' alongside Ren Jialun. With a gripping romance story and superior production quality, the series topped popularity rankings, generated buzz on national and international social media with an overall 8.7M searches. Because of the popularity, a sequel of ''One and Only,'' named '' Forever and Ever,'' was made, where she played "Shi Yi". This series is a poignant love story in modern version.

In 2022, Bai starred as "Xia Jie" in the police series '' Ordinary Greatness''. Later, she starred as "Li Susu" in the historical fantasy series '' Till the End of the Moon'' alongside Luo Yunxi again. This series broke many records online and is placed 1st in ranking, after its premier on Youku.

In 2023 Bai starred as "Jiang Xuening" in the historical drama '' Story of Kunning Palace''. This drama broke the hit index 10,000 of the IQIYI and became the first female centric drama, who achieved that in 2023.

Bai Lu is the face of many national and international brands. She was named the Brand ambassador for a Michael Kors jewelry wristwatch collection and for Chopard. In addition, she partnered with Hourglass, Olay, Amortal, Revivo, Wasado, Florasis, Pony, Italian designer shoe brand Sergio Rossi, Swisse Milk, and other local brands. She is the brand ambassador for Allie and for Changqing Yogurt drink.

Public image

Bai Lu tops the "2022 Most Improved Celebrity" in commercial value rankings. She features in the "Top 10 Most Popular Drama Artist" and in "Top 10 Most Beautiful Chinese Actress 2023". By April 2023, she had 20M followers on Weibo.
