Umrao Dutt Sharma was highly respected and dominance in the Baghpat and Baraut constituencies areas at that time in politics. Umrao Dutt Sharma (also known as Umrao Dutt Ved) retired from active politics in 1957 after completing his 5 year tenure as Member of Legislative Assembly from Baraut, but his political dominance in the Baghpat area continued till 1977.
