After receiving a classical education, he entered the office of

Personal life

Tabor was twice married. His first marriage was to Sarah Todd (1801–1834). Together, they were the parents of: * Paul Todd Taber (1827–1852), who became a doctor and married Elizabeth Wright (1830–1873) in 1851. * Julia Mervin Taber (1830–1899), who married Robert Coats Martin (1823–1906) in 1854. * Mary Taber (1831–1855), who died unmarried. * Susan Edwards Taber (1834–1914), who married a Roman named Borgialli. After the death of his first wife in 1834, he remarried to her younger sister, Catherine Ann Elizabeth Todd (1804–1840).
