Etymology

The term Cawlyahan is a compound of two Somali words, ''cawl'' meaning the color yellow or the mammal gazelle, and ''yahan'' meaning advancer or hunter. As such, cawlyahan may mean either ''advancer towards the color yellow'' or '' advancer towards the gazelle''.
