worldwide. The name ''Apimondia'' is a compound word made from two words; api, referring to honey bees, and mondia, referring to the world. The logo of Apimondia consists of a queen bee superimposed over a globe to reflect the worldwide scope and mission of Apimondia to protect bees and assist beekeepers all over the world. The Federation issues a journal, ''Apiacta''. The 2003 and 2004 issues are available online free of charge. Apimondia also releases a monthly Newsletter to report on the Federation's activities and provide other beekeeping-related information to its members and other stakeholders. Since 1897, every other year Apimondia organises beekeepers' congresses, hosted by different countries on a rotational basis between Europe and the other four continents. Apimondia maintains seven scientific commissions and five regional commissions for the purposes of furthering scientific understanding of apiculture and to facilitate exchange of information.
