These beliefs have resulted in many Hindus practicing vegetarianism, while
Jain doctrine mandates vegetarianism based on its
strict interpretation of the doctrine of ahimsa.
Mahayana Buddhists similarly practice vegetarianism and Mahayana Buddhism prohibits the killing of animals.
