His wife is anthropologist and writer Lynette Singer. As a director, Singer has made many award–winning films, including the ''Strangers Abroad'' series, ''Khyber'', ''Night Will Fall'', ''Where the Wind Blew'', ''Meeting Gorbachev'' with Werner Herzog, and ''Witchcraft Among the Azande.''
