A second-generation New York Puerto Rican, Navedo grew up in New York City. She said she relates to her ''Jane the Virgin'' character because her mother was also a young single mother. Navedo graduated from

Personal life

Navedo met her husband in 1997 and married in 2000; they have two children together, a daughter when Navedo was 35, and a son when she was 37, before they divorced in 2020.
