History
American Oversight was founded in March 2017 by a group of lawyers in response to the first Trump administration.
One of the founders and executive director of the organization at the time, Austin Evers, described the group as being "troubled" by the recently inaugurated administration. Further describing the organization's actions, Evers, who had served as senior counsel to the
