Seceleanu graduated from the

, and in 2005 obtained a master's degree in mathematics from the with a focus on algebra, geometry, and topology. She completed a Ph.D. at the

in 2011, supervised by Hal Schenck. Seceleanu started working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2011, where in 2015 she became an assistant professor, and in 2021 an associate professor. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Commutative Algebra.
