Nylander was assigned to the Toronto Marlies after he cleared waivers on 12 December.

Sweden finished fourth in the tournament. Nylander was also chosen to represent Sweden at the 2018 World Junior Championships. In the tournament Nylander recorded one goal and six assists in seven games, while Sweden won silver medals.
