Taxonomy and systematics
The name ''Alaemon'' comes from the
Greek ''alēmōn'', meaning "wanderer" (from ''alaomai'', meaning "to wander").
The genus was established by
Alexander Keyserling and
Johann Heinrich Blasius in 1840.
