Being owned by the government has caused the channel to fall under its influence, and lacking freedom of expression, unlike other networks such as Al-Jazeera. At launch, it used the Nilesat 101 satellite to deliver its signals, alongside the other specialized Nile-branded channels. In 2018, Amira Salem became the channel's president; she succeeded Amr Al-Shennawi.
