Toponymy

According to Giovan Battista Pellegrini, the name "Agordo" may derive from a Lombard personal name, possibly Agihard. However, there is a noted discrepancy between the current pronunciation and that of the suffix ''-hàrd''. Additionally, there is a phonetic similarity with the Rhaeto-Romance word ''Aga'', meaning "water" which, when combined with the suffix ''-ort'', translates to "watery." This term could refer to
