Surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1955 and named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) for the Achaeans, one of the opposing forces of the Trojan War in Homer's '' Iliad''.
