The crest denotes courage and willingness to defend the country. *Background The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 35th Field Artillery Regiment on 1 April 1933. It was redesignated for the 517th Field Artillery Battalion on 15 August 1949. It was redesignated for the 35th Artillery Regiment on 4 November 1958. It was redesignated for the 35th Field Artillery Regiment on 1 September 1971.
