Film Director
A film director or filmmaker is a person who controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects and visualizes the screenplay (or script) while guiding the film crew and actors in the fulfillment of that Goal, vision. The director has a key role in choosing the Casting (performing arts), cast members, production design and all the creative aspects of filmmaking in cooperation with the Film producer, producer. The film director gives direction to the cast and crew and creates an overall vision through which a film eventually becomes realized or noticed. Directors need to be able to mediate differences in creative visions and stay within the budget. There are many pathways to becoming a film director. ''Première'' is a French film magazine based in Paris and published by Hachette Filipacchi since 1976. Editions are, or have been, published in other markets. History The French film magazine ''Première'' was launched in November 1976 by Jean-Pierre Frimbois and Marc Esposito and originally published by the Lagardère Group. Since 2016, it has been published by Hildegarde. US edition The U.S. version of the magazine was launched by News Corporation, based in New York City and Los Angeles, with its July/August 1987 edition. Their mission was to "reflect The Second Golden Age of the Movies". Susan Lyne was the founding editor, and among those working for the magazine was Peter Biskind, who spent a decade at the magazine as executive editor. Yasmin Ahmad
Yasmin binti Ahmad (7 January 1958 – 25 July 2009) was a Malaysian film director, writer and scriptwriter. She was the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well known in Malaysia for being humorous and touching. Her work crossed cross-cultural barriers, particularly her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company. Her works have won multiple awards both within Malaysia and internationally. In Malaysia, her films were highly controversial due to their depiction of events and relationships, which have been considered 'forbidden' by social conservatives, especially hard-line interpretations of Islam. Elvire Adjamonsi (born February 18, 1971) is a Beninese filmmaker, actor, journalist and cultural developer. She is known for her documentary films and for her work in creating and managing film festivals and cultural institutions across Africa. Biography Adjamonsi was born in Benin, and completed her BA in Visual communication at the Pan African Institute for Development (IPD) in Burkina Faso. She made her first documentary film shortly after finishing her studies. ''De l'eau toute l'année'' (Water All Year) is a 26-minute film about the mini-dams in Burkina Faso. ''Being Black in Halifax'' is a Canadian documentary film and television series, which premiered in 2020 on CBC Television and CBC Gem. Created in conjunction with Fabienne Colas's Being Black in Canada foundation, the series selects several emerging filmmakers each year to create and produce short documentary films about Black Canadian life and experience in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which are screened at the Halifax Black Film Festival before being broadcast as an episode of the CBC's ''Absolutely Canadian'' series and streamed on CBC Gem. Maren Ade (; born 12 December 1976) is a German film director, screenwriter and producer. Ade lives in Berlin, teaching screenwriting at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. Together with Janine Jackowski and Jonas Dornbach, she runs the production company Komplizen Film. She is best known for her film '' Toni Erdmann'', which was nominated for an Academy Award. Perry Miller Adato
Perry Miller Adato (December 22, 1920 – September 16, 2018) was an American documentary film producer and director and writer. Adato was born Lillian Perry Miller in Yonkers, New York. At age 18 she moved to Greenwich Village. She married Neil M. Adato on September 11, 1955. They had two children, Lauren and Michelle. Early life From a very young age Perry Miller Adato was interested in performing. She would perform for her mother, brother and sister in a small Yonkers apartment that her late father left for them. Her widowed mother Ida (Block) Miller managed apartment buildings to provide for her family. During her high school career Perry acted and continued to pursue her acting career during World War II.
