Women's Football In Argentina
Women's football in Argentina has struggled to find a mainstream audience. While women's football clubs have existed in Argentina for decades, only in 1991 a group of clubs was allowed into the AFA (Argentina Football Association). Initially seven teams, the country saw the number of clubs with female teams rising to 35 in 1998, and then steadily plummet due to lack of interest. Many women face prejudice and stigma for playing the game. The first recorded women's football match in Argentina was played on 13 October 1923 at Estadio Ministro Brin y Senguel, then Boca Juniors' stadium. Argentina Football Association
The Argentine Football Association (, ; AFA) is the governing body of football in Argentina based in Buenos Aires. It organises the main divisions of Argentine league system (from Primera División to Torneo Regional Federal and Torneo Promocional Amateur), including domestic cups: Copa Argentina, Supercopa Argentina, Trofeo de Campeones de la Liga Profesional and the Supercopa Internacional. The body also manages all the Argentina national teams, including the Senior, U-20, U-17, U-15, Olympic and women's squads. 1971 Women's World Cup
The 1971 Women's World Cup (Spanish: 1971 Campeonato de Fútbol Femenil) was an association football tournament for women's national teams organised by the Federation of Independent European Female Football (FIEFF) in Mexico in August–September 1971. Held in Mexico City and Guadalajara, it is the second known tournament to be named as a women's football World Cup after the 1970 edition in Italy and the first time in the same place after the men's 1970 FIFA World Cup tournament in the previous year. It was held twenty years before the first official FIFA women's world cup. The tournament featured six national teams from Latin America and Europe, including hosts Mexico which qualified automatically. The Uruguay women's national football team represents Uruguay in international women's football.
