Wolf Salute
The wolf salute, the grey wolf salute, or the grey wolf gesture (), is a Turkish nationalism, Turkish nationalist List of gestures, hand gesture. The gesture originated in the early 20th century, and was introduced by Alparslan Türkeş, leader of the Grey Wolves (organization), Grey Wolves and the Nationalist Movement Party, who stated that the gesture represented Turkish–Islamic nationalism, Turkishness and Islam. Later, the gesture spread to other Turkish nationalists, including secularists. Due to its Far-right politics, far-right origins, it is seen as a controversial gesture and is banned in several countries. 2017 Turkish Constitutional Referendum
A constitutional referendum was held in Turkey on 16 April 2017 on whether to approve 18 proposed amendments to the Turkish constitution that were brought forward by the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). As a result of its approval, the office of Prime Minister was abolished and the existing parliamentary system of government was replaced with an executive presidency and a presidential system. The number of seats in Parliament was raised from 550 to 600, while, among a series of other proposals, the president was given more control over appointments to the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK). The referendum was held under a state of emergency that was declared following the failed military coup attempt in July 2016. Early results indicated a 51–49% lead for the "Yes" vote. The Rabaa or Rabbi'ah sign (, pronounced: ; ; ) - often stylized as R4BIA or less commonly as Rab3a, is a hand gesture and a sign that first appeared in late August 2013, thought to have originated from Turkey and used in social media and protest marches in Egypt.
