White Brick Building
White brick buildings became common in New York City during the 1950s (and are therefore considered to be part of the Modern Architecture, modernist movement), even though they were not totally unknown to the city before that, as the 1907 Plaza Hotel shows. That said, between the 1950s and 1970s, around 140 white brick apartments were built in the city, defining a lot of its post-war character. Since 2008, white brick buildings became recognized as an important element in New York, with the requirement of the first landmark restoration of such as building: the 1960 co-op at 900 Fifth Avenue. As white brick buildings age, they are considered to require higher maintenance than other construction styles. Sutton House (Manhattan)
Sutton House is a three-building residential cooperative with a private garden at 415 East 52nd Street (Manhattan), 52nd Street on the Turtle Bay, Manhattan, Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The building was designed by John M. Kokkins and Stephen C. Lyras in the Modern Architecture, modern style and was built by Kolyer Construction Corporation, originally as a luxury rental building managed by Douglas Elliman and owned by seven owners, including Kokkins, Lyras, Greek executive Manuel Kulukundis. The 19-floor building C faces East 53rd Street (Manhattan), 53rd Street, and is technically, therefore, part of the Sutton Place (Manhattan), Sutton Place neighborhood, while the 12-floor buildings A and B face East 52nd Street. Evolution of the Hindu–Arabic digit Circa 300 BC, as part of the Brahmi numerals, various Indians wrote a digit 9 similar in shape to the modern closing question mark without the bottom dot. The Kshatrapa, Andhra and Gupta started curving the bottom vertical line coming up with a -look-alike. How the numbers got to their Gupta form is open to considerable debate. The Eldorado
The El Dorado (also spelled the Eldorado) is a cooperative apartment building at 300 Central Park West, between 90th and 91st Streets adjacent to Central Park, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was constructed from 1929 to 1931 and was designed by architect of record Margon & Holder and consulting architect Emery Roth in the Art Deco style. The El Dorado consists of twin 12-story towers rising from a 17-story base. The building is a contributing property to the Central Park West Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places–listed district, and is a New York City designated landmark. The base contains several small setbacks, and two towers rise from the eastern side of the base. On Central Park West, the first three stories are clad in cast stone, and the main entrance consists of three angular bronze archways. The San Remo
The San Remo is a cooperative apartment building at 145 and 146 Central Park West, between 74th and 75th Streets, adjacent to Central Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was constructed from 1929 to 1930 and was designed by architect Emery Roth in the Renaissance Revival style. The San Remo is 27 stories tall, with twin towers rising from a 17-story base. The building is a contributing property to the Central Park West Historic District, a National Register of Historic Places–listed district, and is a New York City designated landmark. The 17-story base surrounds an internal courtyard to the west, while the 10-story towers rise from the eastern portion of the base.
