Wedding Dress Of Wallis Warfield
On the event of her wedding to Edward, Duke of Windsor on 3 June 1937 at the Château de Candé, Wallis, Duchess of Windsor (then known as Wallis Warfield) wore a nipped-at-the-waist dress created by Mainbocher in what was termed her signature colour of "Wallis blue" reportedly to match her eyes. Her co-ordinating blue straw hat, by Caroline Reboux, had a halo effect with pale blue tulle and her matching gloves were created from the same blue silk crepe as her dress. In 1950, Wallis presented the dress to the Metropolitan Museum. More than 25 years after the wedding, it was still regarded as "one of the most photographed, most copied dresses of modern times". Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972), later known as the Duke of Windsor, was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until Abdication of Edward VIII, his abdication in December of the same year to marry American divorcée Wallis Simpson. The Château de Candé is a château located in the commune of Monts, Indre-et-Loire, France. It is situated 10 km (6 mi) to the south of Tours on the north bank of the river Indre. History The first known Lord of Candé was Macé de Larçay, in 1313. François Briçonnet, the mayor of Tours and state treasurer, purchased the fief in 1499 and built a Renaissance house on the site of the old fortress. Wallis, Duchess of Windsor (born Bessie Wallis Warfield, later Spencer and then Simpson; June 19, 1896 – April 24, 1986) was an American socialite and the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor (former King Edward VIII). Caroline Reboux
Caroline Reboux (circa 1840–1927) was a Parisian milliner and French fashion designer. She opened her first boutique at 23 rue de la paix in Paris in 1865, which she continued to operate throughout her life. Reboux opened other shops in Paris and London starting in 1870. She trained other milliners who became famous in their own right, including American milliner Lilly Daché and French milliner Rose Valois. Reboux's most famous shop (opened in 1935) was located at 9 Avenue Matignon in Paris, which carried on operating after her death for almost three decades under the direction of known as "Mademoiselle Lucienne" the most famous parisian milliner at that time . Tulle ( ) is a form of netting that is made of small-gauge thread, netted in a hexagonal pattern with small openings, and frequently starched to provide body or stiffness.
