Ritter
Ritter (German for "knight") is a designation used as a title of nobility in German-speaking areas. Traditionally it denotes the second-lowest rank within the nobility, standing above " Edler" and below "" (Baron). As with most titles and designations within the nobility in German-speaking areas, the rank was hereditary and generally was used with the nobiliary particle of von or zu before a family name. For its historical association with warfare and the landed gentry in the Middle Ages, the title of Ritter can be considered roughly equal to the titles of "Knight", but it is hereditary like the British title of "Baronet". Treffurt
Treffurt () is a small town in the western region of the Wartburgkreis district which belongs to the federal state of Thuringia. The former municipality Ifta was merged into Treffurt in January 2019. Elsbeth Von Keudell
Elsbeth von Keudell (1857–1953) was a German nurse and senior coordinator of the Countess Rittberg Sisters' Association of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Red Cross. She was one of the first people to receive the Florence Nightingale Medal for her service to those in need. Life and work Keudell was born 21 May 1857 in Sovetsk, Kaliningrad Oblast, Tilsit, Kaliningrad, Kahlingrad, Russia as the youngest daughter of an officer and landowner and she was trained as a nurse at Berlin's Charité Hospital. From 1902 to 1903 she was head nurse at the surgical clinic of the hospital in Magdeburg-Altsta, Germany. She was one of the first nurses in the country to receive additional training to become a superior at the Red Cross school founded by Clementine von Wallmenich. Marie von Keudell (1838–1918) was a German painter known for her landscape painting. Biography Keudell was born on 16 July 1838 in Launicken, East Prussia. She studied with , and Otto von Kameke in Berlin. Keudell List of women artists exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, exhibited her work at the The Woman's Building (Chicago), Woman's Building at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. She also served as the chairwoman of the Art Commission of the German Art Department "Women" for the Exposition. Keudell was a member of the Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen (Association of Berlin Artists) from 1867 to 1916. She exhibited her paintings at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung (Great Berlin Art Exhibitions) between 1893 and 1912. Keudell was a friend of fellow landscape painter Paula Bonte, with whom she shared a studio. Keudell died in February 1918 in Berlin.
