Upazilas
An ''upazila'' ( pronounced: ), formerly called ''thana'', is an administrative division in Bangladesh, functioning as a sub-unit of a district. It can be seen as an analogous to a county or a borough of Western countries. Rural upazilas are further administratively divided into union council areas (union parishads). Bangladesh has 495 upazilas. The upazilas are the second lowest tier of regional administration in Bangladesh. The administrative structure consists of divisions (8), districts (64), upazilas (495) and union parishads (UPs). This system of devolution was introduced by the former military ruler and president of Bangladesh, Lt-Gen Hossain Muhammad Ershad, in an attempt to strengthen local government. Below UPs, villages (''gram'') and ''para'' exist, but these have no administrative power and elected members. Adamdighi Upazila
Adamdighi Upazila () is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi Division, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Adamdighi Thana was established in 1821 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Adamdighi. Local legend has it that its name came from a Muslim saint, Baba Adam, who visited and dug a ''dighi'' (tank) for water storage. Geography Adamdighi Upazila has a total area of . It is the westernmost upazila of Bogra District. It borders Joypurhat District to the north, Dhupchanchia Upazila to the north and east, Kahaloo Upazila, Kahaloo and Nandigram Upazila, Nandigram upazilas to the east, and Naogaon District to the south and west. Madaripur District () is a district in central Bangladesh and a part of the Dhaka Division. History Madaripur subdivision was established in 1854 within Bakerganj district. In 1873, it was separated from Bakerganj and annexed to Faridpur district. Madaripur subdivision was turned into a district in 1984. Eidgaon () is an upazila of Cox's Bazar District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Combined with the adjoining unions of Chowfaldandi and Varuakhali, it forms the traditional region of Greater Eidgaon. Shantiganj (, formerly known as South Sunamganj or Dakshin Sunamganj (, is an upazila of the Sunamganj District in Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. Dasar Upazila
Dasar Upazila is an upazila of Madaripur district in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh. History A police investigation centre was set up in Dasar on February 2, 2012. Later, the Dasar Thana (police station) was formed on March 2, 2013, with five unions of Kalkini Upazila. Shortly thereafter, the local administration proposed to convert Dasar into upazila. At the meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Restructuring (NICAR) on November 20, 2017, the Dasar Thana (police station) was supposed to be upgraded to upazila but it was rejected and asked to conduct a further examination.
