Unorganized Area (Canada)
An unorganized area or unorganized territory () is any geographic region in Canada that does not form part of a municipality or Indian reserve. In these areas, the lowest level of government is Provinces and territories of Canada, provincial or territorial. In some of these areas, local service agencies may have some of the responsibilities that would otherwise be covered by municipalities. Northern Ontario
Northern Ontario is a primary geographic and quasi-administrative region of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Ontario, the other primary region being Southern Ontario. Unorganized Kenora District is an unorganized area in northwestern Ontario, Canada, in Kenora District. Constituting 98.39 percent of the district's land area, yet only 10.93 percent of its population, it is essentially the remainder of the district's territory after all incorporated cities, municipalities, townships, Indian reserves, and Indian settlements have been excluded. Unorganized South East Cochrane District is an unorganized area in the Canadian province of Ontario, encompassing the small portion of the Cochrane District, immediately surrounding Highway 11 at the division's southern boundary with the Timiskaming District, which is not part of the municipality of Black River-Matheson which surrounds it. It consists of the southern half of the geographic township of Benoit and is the southernmost limit of the Great Clay Belt of northern Ontario. The division had a population of 15 in the Canada 2011 Census, and a land area of 53.19 square kilometres. The main settlement in the division is the ghost town of Bourkes, located at the Ontario Northland Railway crossing on Bourkes road. The area was initially settled by Scandinavian immigrants around 1911 as a dairy farming region and by 1914 had a store, railway station and siding, school, post office and bunkhouse as well as two gold mines. The 2006 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population. Census day was May 16, 2006. The following census was the 2011 census. Canada's total population enumerated by the 2006 census was 31,612,897. This count was lower than the official July 1, 2006 population estimate of 32,623,490 people. The previous census was the 2001 census and the following census was in 2011 census. Summary Over 12.7 million households, 32.5 million people were expected to be counted. Canada Post delivered census forms by mail to 70% of the country, primarily residents in urban areas. Census enumerators delivered to the remaining 30% of households. Every fifth home received the long questionnaire (53 questions versus 8 questions on the short form). For the first time, Canadian residents were able to go online to fill in their forms. The Province of Ontario has 51 first-level administrative divisions, which collectively cover the whole province. With two exceptions, their areas match the 49 census divisions Statistics Canada has for Ontario. Local Services Board (Ontario)
A local services board (LSB) is an organization in the Canadian province of Ontario that is contracted by the Government of Ontario to provide municipal-level services in a community that is not part of an incorporated municipality. Most local services boards are elected by residents of the communities they serve. Depending on the community, the services provided may include water, sewage, street lighting, Waste collection, garbage collection, recreational, fire department, library and/or emergency telecommunications services. Maintenance of local roads in a local services board's jurisdictional area is generally contracted to a separate local roads board.
