Arthur Umbers
Arthur Ernest Umbers (30 June 1919 – 14 February 1945) was a New Zealand flying ace of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) during the Second World War. He was credited with the destruction of five German aircraft as well at least fifteen, possibly as many as twenty-eight, V-1 flying bombs. Born in Dunedin, Umbers joined the RNZAF in 1940. After completing his flight training, the latter part of which was received in Canada, he was posted to the Royal Air Force's No. 74 Squadron in August 1941 and then onto No. 486 Squadron, with which he flew extensively on both night operations and offensive sorties for nearly 18 months. After a rest period, during which he was a test pilot for Hawker Siddeley and then the Gloster Aircraft Company, he returned to operational flying in April 1944 with No. 3 Squadron. Mark Umbers (born 17 June 1973) is an English theatre, film and television actor. Early life and education Born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Umbers was brought up in Wetherby and was educated at Malsis School before attending Sedbergh School. In 1995 he graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Latin and Greek literature and philosophy. Career Umbers' first professional engagements were in 1997 in the BBC dramas ''The Student Prince'' and ''Berkeley Square''. His theatre debut was the lead role in a production of ''The Pirates of Penzance'' which transferred to Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in London. Richard James Umbers (born 17 March 1971) is an Australian Catholic bishop. He is currently an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney and the youngest Latin Catholic bishop in Australia. He is also the first priest of Opus Dei to be appointed a bishop in Australia. Early life Umbers was born in Ōtāhuhu, New Zealand, on 17 March 1971 to Declan (1927–2013) and Mary (1933–2019) Umbers. He is the youngest of five children and the brother of Anthony, Andrew, Gregory and Margaret. He was raised in Papatoetoe. He originally studied management at the University of Waikato in 1989 but transferred to the University of Sydney in 1992 to receive more intense formation at a centre of Opus Dei in Chatswood, New South Wales. He graduated with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Management from the University of Waikato, New Zealand.
