Tsumeshogi
or tsume (詰め) is the Japanese language, Japanese term for a shogi miniature problem in which the goal is to checkmate the opponent's king. Tsume problems usually present a situation that might occur in a shogi game (although unrealistic artistic tsume shogi exists), and the solver must find out how to achieve checkmate. It is similar to a mate-in-''n'' chess problem. The term tsumi (詰み) means the state of checkmate itself. The verb form is tsumu (詰む) "to checkmate". (The related term ''tsumero'' 詰めろ refers to the slightly different concept of "threatmate". See: Hisshi.) ''Tsume shogi'' problems are strictly forced mate problems with constant checks. Shogi notation is the set of various abbreviatory notational systems used to describe the piece movements of a shogi game record or the positions of pieces on a shogi board. , also known as Japanese chess, is a Strategy game, strategy board game for two players. It is one of the most popular board games in Japan and is in the same family of games as chess, Western chess, chaturanga, xiangqi, Indian chess, and janggi. Hisshi
Brinkmate is the situation in which an unavoidable checkmate sequence will be created by the player's next move. In shogi, brinkmate is known as hisshi (必至 "desperation, inevitability" or 必死 "sure kill"). Note that in shogi ''tsume'' is defined as strictly forced mate sequences with constant checks. The checkmating sequence itself (after the brinkmate) is known as a 詰め ''tsume.'' Brinkmate differs from the situation in which a checkmate sequence is only being threatened to be created in the next move but is still avoidable if the opponent defends correctly. This situation is known as threatmate or, in Japanese, 詰めろ tsumero ("threatened mate"). Thus, brinkmate is an indefensible threatmate. Cheerful Central Rook
In shogi, Cheerful Central Rook (ゴキゲン中飛車 ''gokigen nakabisha'', also Gokigen Central Rook or Go-As-You-Please Central Rook) is a type of Central Rook opening in which the Central Rook player's bishop diagonal remains open. Richard Bozulich (born 1936) is an American author, publisher of Go (board game), Go books in English and college math instructor. He co-founded the Ishi Press. He has worked with several Japanese Go professional, professional players. He had a regular go column in Yomiuri Shimbun, The Daily Yomiuri, which at that time was Japan's largest English-language newspaper. He lives in Chigasaki, Japan. In 2012 Bozulich was a candidate for Comptroller of New York City for the War Veterans Party. From university Bozulich was born in Los Angeles, California. From 1955 to 1956, he attended UCLA, studying the foundations of mathematics in the philosophy department under Richard Montague. Eventually he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966 with a BA in mathematics. Shogi Strategy
Shogi, like western chess, can be divided into the opening, middle game and endgame, each requiring a different strategy. The opening consists of arranging one's defenses and positioning for attack, the middle game consists of attempting to break through the opposing defenses while maintaining one's own, and the endgame starts when one side's defenses have been compromised. Tactics Many basic tactics (手筋 ''tesuji'') of shogi are similar to those of chess tactics, involving forks, pins, removing the defender and other techniques, all of which are considered very strong when used effectively. Fool's Mate
The Fool's mate is the fastest checkmate in chess delivered after the fewest possible moves from the game's starting position. It arises from the following moves (minor variations are possible): :1. f3 e6 :2. g4?? Qh4 The mate can be achieved in two moves only by Black, giving checkmate on the second move with the queen. Fool's mate received its name because it can occur only if White commits an extraordinary blunder. Black can be mated in an analogous way, although this requires an additional move, with White's queen delivering checkmate on the third move. Blunder (chess)
In chess, a blunder is a critically bad mistake that severely worsens the player's position by allowing a loss of , checkmate, or anything similar. It is usually caused by some tactical oversight, whether due to time trouble, overconfidence, or carelessness. Although blunders are most common in beginner games, all human players make them, even at the world championship level. Creating opportunities for the opponent to blunder is an important skill in chess. What qualifies as a blunder rather than a normal mistake is somewhat subjective. A weak move from a novice player might be explained by the player's lack of skill, while the same move from a master might be called a blunder. Static Rook
Static Rook (居飛車 ''ibisha'') Shogi opening, openings is one of two major opening strategies in shogi. In the opening, the major piece of the rook fights from its starting position on the right side of the board (the 2nd file for Black, Sente, and the 8th file for White, Gote). In contrast, the other major opening deploys the rook to the center or left half of the board in the opening, and is known as Ranging Rook or Swinging Rook (振り飛車 furibisha). Summary Compared with Ranging Rook, leaving the rook in its starting position on the 2nd file (8th file for Gote), or in that general area on the right side, can be a more natural idea for a strategy.
