The tomato is a member of the nightshade family that includes tobacco, potato, and chili peppers. It originated from and was domesticated in western South America. The "Better Boy" tomato variety is a hybrid between the ''Teddy Jones'' heirloom tomato variety and an unknown red variety developed by plant breeder John Peto. ''Better Boy'' fruit grows from an indeterminate plant, growing to about in weight, and typically ripens in around 72 days, growing to about high. ''Better Boy'' tomatoes are resistant to both verticillium and fusarium wilt. Due to the relatively high amount of fruit it yields, it is recommended that the ''Better Boy'' varieties should be sturdily staked when planted in a garden. Brandywine Tomato
__NOTOC__ The Brandywine tomato is an heirloom cultivar of tomato, with large potato-leaved foliage and large pink beefsteak-shaped fruit. It is popularly considered among the best tasting available. Description The Brandywine tomato plant has unusual potato leaf-shaped foliage, with smooth, oval, pointy tipped leaves. Its sandwich-sized fruit can grow up to 1.5 lbs (0.7 kg) and has been described as having a "great tomatoey flavor", offset by an appealing acidity. It has a beefsteak tomato shape, mixed red and deep purple flesh, and can have green shoulders near the stem even when fully ripe. The plant is heavily cultivated in spite of the fruit requiring 80 to 100 days to reach maturity, making it among the slowest maturing varieties of common tomato, and the cultivar's relatively low yield. Black Krim
The Black Krim (Solanum lycopersicum) (also known as Black Crimea and Noire de Crimée) is an heirloom tomato originating from Crimea. The plant is open-pollinated, indeterminate, bearing 250 gram flattened globe fruits with a diameter around 8-12 centimeters. The unique color of the berry are dark reddish-purple to black in sunny conditions with green/brown shoulders. The plant can grow up to 180 centimeters in height if it’s in a greenhouse and slightly less if outside. Blaby Special
The Blaby Special is a variety of red-fruited tomato (''Solanum lycopersicum'') that was grown in the village of Blaby in Leicestershire, England, until just after World War II. It was the main tomato cultivar available in England during the war. The cultivar ceased to be cultivated when Shoults' Tomato Farm was closed after the war. The variety was brought back into cultivation in 2006 as a result of a campaign by Dr Russell Sharp of Lancaster University. It may have resulted from either a mutation or a cross pollination involving an older cultivar known as Anwell.. Blaby () is a town in the Blaby District in central Leicestershire, England, some five miles south of Leicester city centre. At the time of the 2011 census, Blaby had a population of 6,194, falling slightly from 6,240 in 2001. Given Blaby's proximity to the city, it is part of the Leicester Urban Area. Its name likely came from Old Norse. ''Blábýr'' = "farmstead or village belonging to a man named Blár" (where the ''-r'' is a case ending). There seems to have been a dense patch of Viking settlement in Leicestershire, although some records in the Blaby Library indicate the origin of the village's name was from the first vicar.
